Good news for the Travelers, Simpson will be having a go at the Travelers Championship
The Travelers Championship kicks of this Thursday. With the US Open just finished, many big names would not be a part of this tournament. Fans will not see Tiger Woods at least but there is one person who will be seen at the championship.
One player who will be seen at the TPC River Highlands is the freshly crowned US Open champion, Webb Simpson. News is that Simpson will be eyeing the $6,000,000 worth of prize money.
After he won the US Open there were many question marks over his participation in the tournament, because in the past as well, not many players who have won the US Open, come to play at the Travelers. That may be because of the tight schedule.
The last player who won the US Open and then went on to play at the Travelers was Lucas Glover, back in 2009.
Glover however triumphed at the Bethpage Black, which was surely an easier task than what Simpson had to achieve.
We have seen many great players play the Travelers. However, due to the tight schedule, players avoid playing the tournament right after the US Open, to save themselves from mental and physical fatigue.
However, the tournament will have likes of Bubba Watson, and Keegan Bradley. A total of 155 players will be teeing off at the TPC River Highlands this Thursday.
Simpson had confirmed his participation in the Travelers way before the US Open but seeing the general trend, many people thought that he would withdraw his participation.
When the Tournament Director was asked about it this is what he had to say, “I talked to his agent last night. He is still coming,” said Nathan Grube, Travelers Tournament Director.
The championship has been officially kicked off at the TPC River Highlands, it started almost right after US Open ended.
Webb Simpson coming to the Travelers would mean that a little extra crowd will be present there, which is an encouraging sign for the championship.
Not only there will be more competition but extra news coverage will also be given to the event, which will eventually raise the value of the championship.
