What's a good pellet gun around $90-$140 that is accurate, and preferably around 900+ FPS (.177cal)

i was looking at the Crosman Storm XT and the Gamo Carbine

PS: You think the Gamo Carbine would be strong enough to get clean kills for crows, squirrels, etc.?

  1. In .177 caliber, the Crosman Storm XT would make a better hunting air-rifle than the Gamo carbine due to the greater muzzle velocity. However both would work fine as hunting air-guns. That said, a .22 caliber pellet gun would make a better hunting air-gun since the heavier pellets start out with more energy and tend to retain their energy better at longer ranges. That means they have better penetration and terminal performance, especially at longer ranges. Regardless the important thing is to find something with enough energy for small game hunting that you are comfortable shooting and can shoot well.

As far as the Gamo carbine being strong enough to kill crows, squirrels, etc... It should have more than enough power. For more information I encourage you to check this website with information about what kind of terminal velocity air-gun pellets need: http://www.airguns.net/general_field_use...

  2. Neither the Gamo 640 Carbine nor the Gamo Carbine Sport which are both rated at "UP TO" 640fps with lead pellets are good small game hunters. >The Gamo Big Cat is in your price range, and would be much better.

With the Crosman Storm XT you get a reasonable accurate and reasonable powerful rifle. You can expect 900fps with 7.9gr Crosman Premier pellets. The Storm XT makes a fine small game hunter.

Of the Crosman Storm XT, Quest and Phantom the Phantom seems to be the best performer.

You might also consider the Ruger Air Hawk, it's in the same price, and power range as the Crosman guns.

The Benjamin 397 is slightly less powerful, but, it is accurate, and very well made.
