Anywhere a lot of people have been, especially in deep sand on beaches. Near docks, on playgrounds, boat ramps, under benches, anywhere coins or rings may have fallen. After a storm is a good time to go since things of interest may have been washed ashore from deeper water. Have fun!

Veterans halls are often the best place to look for medals. There are some guys who show up wearing as many as 4 or 5 medals.

Now if you wanted metals, along most roadways you will detect pieces of metal, from road edge to fence line and even beyond.

Old firing ranges

But the most heavily scanned are beaches. If there was any metal there it has likely been found. It may then have been discarded.
