Good places in New England for beginning snowboarders?

What are the atmospheres like at different locations? We're beginners in our early 20s. What are some good places for lessons?

Also, how much does it help if you have skiing experience?

Thanks!

  1. Jiminy Peak in Western Mass

    Killington VT

    Mount Snow VT

    West MtN  Glens Falls NY

    Gore NY

    Stratton VT

    Royale MtN  Gloversville NY

    Maple Ridge   Schenectady  NY

It really depends on where you are staying, If you give me a location I can hook you up with some great spots that are going to be right near you, For a beginner Its doesn't make sense for you to travel all over the place to find a resort as you will probably have the same experience every where>  I instruct at Jiminy Peak IN Western MASS I also know instructors at stratton killington and MT SNOW  I can get you hooked up with some good people.  Hit me with an email   awirmusky@yahoo.com

  2. Sunday river in maine is a great family/beginner environment with a great learn to snowboard program. If youre looking for somewhere really small try nashoba valley ski area. I started boarding last year and was a skiier before that. Theyre two totally different techniques. REMEMBER YOUR HELMETS!

  3. I learned how to snowboard when I was 19 and was a skier before then. I would say that they are different enough that knowing how to ski won't help you too much.  The only advantage you will have as a skier is a better grasp of how your edges work but other than that it will be a whole new experience.

I would recommend a medium sized mountain like Loon. I really like the instructors over at Loon and it is a very snowboard friendly mountain. I believe they are also a part of the Burton Learn to Ride program which uses special equipment and techniques.

The only problem is that it can get a bit cold at times but that's going to be the same not matter where you go in New England
