Question:

Good places to eat in Nova Scotia, Specifically around the Halifax Metro Center!?

My father is up at the Halifax Metro Center (1800 Argyle) & he & his coworkers don’t know the area so I was hoping to recommend some casual (but not fast food) places to go. They have a bunch of camera operators, truck drivers, tech guys, Exc, in their group so ANY style of food would be fine, as long as it is good & reasonably priced & the restaurant can hold about a dozen in a group!

Oh, anything but Pizza that is, most of them are from Chicago & we are VERY picky with our pizza…

A name & a little detail would be spectacular but if you happen to have a cross street I would be GREATLY appreciative!

Oh! In addition, does Nova Scotia have any regional specialties they should look for? Nothing better then exploring some regional cuisine! If so, what should they look for? Good fish? A Nova Scotia specific style of cooking or dish?

They will be there for over a week so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Just go down the hill to The Old Triangle for great pub food.

Scotia Square has the most incredible Lebanese fast food at Ray's in their food court.

McElvies''s across from the Old Triangle has good local seafood, as does The Five Fishermen up on Argyle.

The best fish chowder is at Phil's on Quinpool.

  2. Everyone else has already mentioned some of the best places to eat so I won't go into that too much but let me reiterate that Your Father's Moustache (Spring Garden Rd) is awesome.

A great place for tons of different kinds of beer is Maxwells Plum, just down the street from the Metro Center.

As far as regional specialities goes make sure he tries a Donair.

  3. There are tons of good eateries in downtown Halifax. They could just walk around and look for something good, but here are a few recommendations:

If they walk over to Spring Garden Road, (pretty close to Argyle) they can find fun/good places like "Your Father's Mustache". It's casual, pub-style food where they can relax for a couple of beers, and I think their rooftop deck might already be open for this season.

If they want something more pricey, they could walk down to the waterfront. A restaurant called "Seven" is supposed to be really good (but high-end), as is Bish.

Even on Argyle there are tons of restaurants... I'm sure they'll find something they'll like.

  4. the other answers are all great, but no trip is complete without a stop at the Economy Shoeshop (Its a restaurant/bar).

A great source to check out is:

I've linked you directly to the restaurants downtown, but be careful, not all are in walking distance.

  5. My favorite restaurant in Halifax is the Athens.  It is downtown on Quinpool Rd.  and it is well known.  The prices are very reasonable and the food and service are excellent.  Here's a link.
