How happy would you be if your wife/gf suprised you with a set of Callaway Big Bertha irons? Would you prefer them to be steel or graphite? Is the 2006 or 2004 model better?

  1. Ask the gent in question to go to a Golfsmith or similar store to see what would happen if he were fitted for clubs...get the measurements from the fitter and get as much club(s) as your budget will allow...I am sure he will be very thankful...and I could go on and say soem very poor golf double entendres, but I won't.

  2. I would tell her and act like I was very happy , then I would take them to my nearest Golfsmith and trade them in for Titleist Clubs .

  3. Callaway Big Bertha(BB) is a great set of clubs for beginners - easy to get the ball airborne and very forgiving.  However, I wouldn't recommend it to someone in the 20's with an average physique simply because it is TOO forgiving and he might outgrow them.

Golf clubs these days have gotten so forgiving that they practically hit the ball for you even if you have bad golf swing.  We call these "stupid-easy" clubs.  They might be beneficial at first, but won't really tell whether or not the ball is flying straight because of a good golf swing or a good club.

I recommend X-18 or X-20 (stay away from X-16) from Callaway.  It's not as forgiving as BB, but forgiving enough to be considered as beginner's clubs and challenging enough to make the game fun in a long run.

The graphite shaft might be too whippy for him, so go with the steel shaft.  Callaway's Constant Uniflex steel shaft is considered as one of the lightest steel shafts in the market.

Lastly, if you must go with BB, then go with the 2006 model.

    Hope it helps.

  4. You need to figure out somehow what he wants before you buy it.  Maybe a gift card?  Maybe a couple dozen good golf balls.

  5. i would get him the taylormade racs becuz there cheap and are a good club or get him something he needs like tees, balls, accesssories, ball markers, just simple stuff, or you could surprise with a club in a bag he needs. racs are 400 or less which is less than callaways. you could also get him a new bag, golf shoes, golf cart, glove, range finders,

  6. I would not be happy.  As I like to try the clubs before buying them.  I may not like the brand, the model, etc.

Give him a gift card.  Or if you don't want to go this route, make up an excuse to go with him to a golf store, and I am sure being a golfer, he likes to try things, and you can tell which clubs he likes.  So you buy those.

  7. Just ask him what he likes, and what he wishes he had. Nobody knows more than him. Plus I doubt he will know that your going to buy it for him. Just sound curious when you ask him. And I'm thinking newer is better....

  8. I would not buy him golf clubs.  Better yet, get him a gift certificate to a golf retailer.  Maybe put the certificate in some kind of an ad from the retailer.  Let him pick out his own clubs.  Everybody is different and with so many different brands to chose from, he'd appreciate it more if he could pick out his own.

  9. Callaway Big Bertha is too expensive. My list if somebody going to give me a gift.

    Taylor Made R7 Draw  $399

Taylor Made Burner Draw Driver $199

Taylor Made Burner Fairway Wood (3 or 5) $149

    Taylor Made Hybrid $129

    Putter any brand (Odyssey) $99

    A total $975

If you going to buy the Callaway worth at least $900 no driver, fairway wood, hydrid and putter. Taylor Made is a nice club and very forgivving. I used it a lot. Hope this will help.

  10. i would want some better irons. and i think i would ask him if he likes graphite or steel clubs better.

    good luck!!
