Good program for movie editing home movies (windows vista)?

so i have an HD panasonic video camera and want to make my own movies. however i do not know any good programs for windows vista that would allow me to edit my footage. 200 is my max (seeing how i'm still in school). thx for the help.

why cant u go on movie maker go to start>all programs>and then find movie maker up the top some where

Check out Sony Vegas Studio Platinum version if you are working on a PC. This and a few other programs can handle HDV type footage, while others can't. Search for HDV editing on the web. If Sony Vegas Studio Platinum can handle your camera's output, it is really reasonably priced. Watch for rebates when new versions come out! Make sure you are looking at the Vegas Studio Platinum version. Vegas Pro is quite a lot pricier! I think Vegas Platinum will work with your budget. Here's wishing you good editing!
