  1. Brass Monkeys is a cool bar, frequented by students and not overly bothered about being trendy like some of the bars around Princes St, George St and Castle St.  I can't remember exactly where it is but it's up near Chambers St, near some of the uni buildings.

Don't remember it being too expensive, but then again, it could have been happy hour!

Otherwise try some of the bars around Newington - as this is also studentville to a certain extent they tend to do good deals on drinks and be a bit more relaxed than the west end.

Incidentally I was never a student in Edinburgh, nor did I live with any, but I moved there when I got my first permanent job after Uni.

There are a couple of nice bars around Hanover st and Henderson (Stockbridge) but watch out, they can be pricey!

  2. If your 18 you should of known this when you were 14,what kind of a teenager are you.

  3. Flash and trendy  -  Bar 38 or Opal Lounge on George Street

Good 'pub' pub  -  Milnes on Rose Street or Teuchters on William Street

Old man pub  -  Robertsons on Rose Street

Cheap and cheerful  - Standing Order on George Street

g*y scene - head towards Broughton Street

All are good really  -  Rose Street's got loads of pubs, bars and restaurants so is a decent place to start right in the centre (it also makes a good pub crawl from end to end!)

  4. The Weapons of Mass Destruction off Princess Street is good. Try the Slow Comfortable Scud at £2.60.

  5. I've visited Edinburgh twice and found the best pubs were in the area between Princes Street and George Street (inclusive)
