Good reflexes, concentration key to winning in Volleyball
As opposed to common perception, volleyball is a game of skill and stamina. If the players are not vigilant in the mind as well as the body, you can be sure that they have served the match on a pretty plate to the opposing team.
Good reflexes and concentration are the key to have a good chance of winning any volleyball game. They lay the foundation on which good tactics and techniques are based.
In order to see the devised tactics fall into place, the players must have the necessary prowess to do so. If the volleyball players do not know how to make a proper pass, they will not be able to make the ball reach the desired goal. Therefore, the first
thing to focus on while practicing volleyball is to work on the passing technique.
In volleyball, there are two main passing techniques: the Forearm Pass and the Overhand Pass. We will deal with each one categorically in order to assess which pass can be more useful.
For any player who started playing ball, the first lesson on passing must have been the forearm technique in most cases. The player is told by the trainer to stretch out both arms in front of her and hold the hands together. When the arms are positioned
this way, the knees should be bent. This posture helps the player remain active and make the hit efficiently if the ball is coming her way.
An effective contact with the ball is made when the player puts herself directly behind the ball in the previously described posture. This makes it possible for the player to redirect the ball to the area where she wants it to go by changing the ball’s trajectory.

The forearm pass is most used by volleyball players, who instinctively position themselves in this way even if they have to make a dig for a forceful spike. However, good volleyball players realize that if they combine this traditional passing technique
with the overhand pass, they can be more effective in terms of covering more area.
In an overhand pass, the player does not wait for the ball to come to her, rather, she raises both her arms up to meet the ball en route. Contact with the ball is made with the hands of the player. The hands should be placed in such a position that all ten
fingers of the player are able to make contact with the ball. If this is not done properly, a player is not able to control the trajectory of the ball, which will go out of bounds in most cases.
There are several advantages of using an overhand pass to make a throw as compared to the forearm pass. As the player does not wait for the ball to come to her, the speed of the attack increases. The opposing team is given less thinking time to orient itself
with the incoming throw.
Once a player gets the hang of the overhand pass, she is able to use it defensively as well. The pass gives more control over the ball and a player does not have to make major changes in her position in order to make it. If the opposing team has thrown the
ball at full force, the best way to handle it is to make an overhand pass.
These were some basic pointers about the overhand pass. Now go ahead and practice volleyball.
