Good restaurant before prom in san francisco?

Question

there's going to be twenty of us and we have no idea where to go to dinner before prom

but we're thinking somewhere in the city

and a nice and formal restaurant since were going to be dressed up

any ideas?

Bucca De Peppo can accommodate a big party, make a reservation though.  Great Italian food, good, fun atmosphere.

Go to Alioto's at Fisherman's Wharf or try somewhere on North Beach.

Let me tell you, almost any restaurant in North Beach is delicious :] But it's all Italian food...usually. But I love Italian food, so what can I say! Ha.

DO NOT go to RAINFOREST CAFE or BENIHANAS. That's not the place to go if it's prom and you're in San Francisco.

Maybe you should state what your budget is and if you are high school or college aged?

The San Francisco Chronicle has a lot of information about good places to eat and indications of price. I'd suspect that one of the big restaurants on Clement Street could accomodate a big party like that in one of their upstairs party rooms. I see well dressed families having special occasions there whenever I go to a group dining event.
