1. For a quieter and more upscale fine dining establishment, consider:

    BIBA'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT

(Excellent reviews & Zagat rating, very very good local chef)

There are some really nice and upscale restaurants around the Sheraton Hotel located across the street from the State capitol.

    SLOCUM HOUSE

(Very nice restaurant with consistently good food & service been there a long long time too)

    7992 California Ave

    Fair Oaks, CA 95628 Map

    (916) 961-7211

BANDERA'S (If you're familiar with HOUSTONS restaurant, its the same ownership and concept...ambiance is nice however a little noisy if you're looking for a romantic place for two)

    2232 Fair Oaks Blvd

    Sacramento, CA 95825

Marilyn's on K (Nice and quaint restaurant)

    (916) 446-4361

    908 K St, Sacramento, CA

FRANK FAT'S (Very Upscale Chinese Restaurant)

    806 L St, Sacramento, CA

    (916) 442-7092

Very good cuisine, service & great reviews too!

These are just a few (its been a couple years since I've been in Sacto), and I'm sure there are more out there! Hope this helps.

  2. I'm a sucker for Old Sac. The Firehouse is very nice, so is the Delta King, Rio City Cafe, California Fats and Fat City. The Firehouse is the most upscale and the most expensive. The Delta Lounge, on the third floor of the Delta King riverboat/hotel, is a great place to have a drink and overlook the river.

If reliving 1860 is not your thing, there are several places in Midtown that would be perfect. My favorite would be Mulvaney's on L St. and 19th. It's an old firehouse and the food and drinks are delicious. The Waterboy is in the same vein. It's on Capital and 20th.

If you want something a little more comtemporary, I would suggest 55 Degrees at Capital and, I think, 8th, or Mason's on 15th and L.
