Good restaurants in North London?

Hello there, I'm new to North London and looking to celebrate my anniversary with my girlfriend by taking her to a nice restaurant. My situation is complicated by two things:

a) lack of money for very fancy restaurant and

b) my girlfriend's serious knee injury that prevents her from comfortably using the tube so I will probably be driving.

With that in mind does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. STAY in & cook her something?

  2. Not sure what you'd consider North London, but here's two suggestions:

1st is in Kilburn (North west London), planty of parking in residential streets nearby:

Small is Beautiful, Kilburn High Road

It''s really exceptionally cheap, and the food, in my experience is reliably good without being mind-blowing - the big plus is that it's quite romantic, more like a restuarant than a cafe, unusual for the prices they charge.

2nd: Islington - there are three Turkish restaurants that are worth the trip - from cheapest, they are:

    Gem,  265 Upper St

Gallipoli, 102 Upper St (always packed)

Pasha, 301 Upper St. (more upmarket and special)

Turkish food is really good value, usually very high standard, and great for sharing a romantic meal (go for the meze) and there are any amount of cozy, romanitc restaurants in Islington, Dalston and Newington Green.

Parking in Islington is OK-ish, in residential streets behind Upper St.

If you want to be  more specific about budget/location, I'll give it another go...

  3. Go to green line

  4. More infor re location would be good, but try Whetstone. The Haven is great fun and quite trendy. The restaurant can be pricey, but the cocktail bar is more than ok price wise and quality wise. So you can have platters, burgers etc there in a really romantic, buzzy setting. If you want, there are 3 Italian restaurants (or 4 if you include pizza express and ask) and two of those on the same side of the road as Haven. Also, there is are a couple of restaurants on the other side, Rotisserie, The Lantern(Greek) and another Turkish. A little further down the road is another restaurant called Mona Lisa (European food) and then keep going and another Italian (opp Swan Lane - can't remember name), really excellent. The World is your oyster. BUT, depends where you live. Have fun!

  5. Yum Yums stoke newington high street, Thai food lovely atmosphere.

La Sera again sn high street seafood restaraunt.. Lovely grub

  6. There's a really romantic restuarant in central crouch end called Bouga, which is middle eastern food. It's beautifully candle lit, with fresh rose petals on the tables, lovely smells and the food is great. It's on the ground floor and aside from one step, it's on the flat. They have really great music there too, you'll love it and feel very loved up there :)

  7. theres quincys just south of watford on the A41 very reasonable prices menu varys {even had crocodile steaks in there once}. worth going just that little bit further north
