  1. Here's some that the local kayaking clubs prefer there in Connecticut:

    Great Swamp

    Lake Lillinonah

    Candlewood Lake

    Still River

    Housatonic River

    Lynn Deming Park

    The sound

Check out the websites for your local clubs, they have good pictures and info on local events.  If you want to be in on the loop of good places to boat, I highly recommend you join one. I learned to Kayak by joining a club. It's a good way to network with other boaters, get free lessons, try out boats, and is usually an excellent source for finding affordable boats and gear.

    Here they are:

    Have fun, and happy paddling.

**Edit***, oops, I thought this was a kayaking question, sorry.  Anyways, if the lake/river is good for boating, it's good for whatever other recreational preference you have.  Have fun.

  2. Depends on what you want from them. The Connecticut River is okay but I wouldn't expect to swim in it.

If you want info on Connecticut tourism, check ctnow.com or the Hartford Courant site, they can both help you with the state information.
