  1. Wow, there are so many good bikes for a triathalon, but if you want to use the bike to ride around town, then you actually need to pick one that is suited for both.

The number one thing is fit. Make sure that the bike is not too big or too small for you. If you do not know what this means, go to a good bike store and they can have you try them out and let you know what size bike fits you.

As for brands, Trek, Giant, Fuji, Cannondale, Specialized, Bianchi, Pinnarello and others.

For a starter bike you might want to buy one that is used from someone who already does triathalons.

    Good Luck!

  2. An excellent option is the Cervelo Soloist Team. This Aluminum bike shares the same shape and aerodynamics as higher-end Cervelos ridden by CSC-Saxo Bank in the Pro Tour. In fact, some CSC team members chose the Soloist Team for certain races during the year. While not a true time trial bike, the aerodynamics of this bike rivals that of most time-trial bikes. With a set of clip-on aero bars you'll have a more than adequate set up for the occasion triathlon, in addition to a sweet ride for the trip into town or a jaunt in the countryside.

  3. I agree with kale800m, the Cervelo is an awesome bike that you can switch the seat tube for either a TT setup or normal riding.

  4. You want a road bike with clip-on aerobars. It's impossible to make a recommendation without knowing how much you are willing to spend.

Go to your local bike shops and see what they have to offer in your price range. Test ride the bikes. That's important. Go to other shops and test ride what they have to offer. Bikes around the same price are very likely to be equivalent values because the business is so competitive. The most important thing is fit. Out of all the bikes you try, one will fit you and feel better than the others. Buy that bike because it is the one you will enjoy and ride the most for better training. Ignore the brand name on the bike. Ignore marketing hype and fancy brochures. Pay attention to, but don't get hung up on component groups.
