  1. Well, I've ran track since the seventh grade.  My first year, I wasn't in shape until the end and didn't realize the 400 was an all-out sprint.  My best was a 65.  Coming into the season, I was 12, then turned 13.  The next season, my best was a 62.  If you can't sprint it all out, dont' panic.  Lightly jog, stretch, do your warmups, and about five minutes before your race, to a build-up of about 50 meters, or half of a normal track straightaway.  Start off slow and gradually increase your speed until you're at full.  Don't continue to long at full spead, because you don't want to get tired before your race.  Don't eat sugar, unless it's naturally in something, like a granola bar.  Stay hydrated!!!  If you run a minute 10, or a 70, be very pleased with yourself.  Most girls at the State Class A meet that run the 400 in finals usually run 58s or 59s.  Good luck and have fun!!!
