Question:

Good saddle?

I am looking to buy my first saddle. I'm a hunter, and my seat is 16.5 or 17. I need a good quality, leather, jumper saddle. Does anyone have suggestions? I can spend up to $1000. I found a Thornhill saddle that I like, nut I don't know if it's right for me.

  1. Looks good to me. Make sure that you get the right size tree for your horse.

  2. try a Pessoa their a little over 1000 but they last really long. The leather is great. Try Dover Saddlery they have nice selection. doversaddlery.com

  3. If you want a good saddle under $1,000, I'd say go for either a Collegiate, HDR (Henri De Rivel), Ovation, or Dover's Circuit saddles. Their close contact saddles are all priced under $1,000, so once you add fittings (irons, stirrup leathers, girth, saddle pad) it ends up to about a little over a grand. I've seen the Thornhill saddles before and I wasn't very impressed to be honest with you. Anyway, another good website to look at that may help is www.horsetackreview.com. It really helped me out, and I hope it helps you the same way.
