Good show by Mark Sanchez helps New York Jets beat Buffalo Bills – NFL Recap Week 12
Buffalo Bills suffered their fourth straight loss against New York Jets as Mark Sanchez rallied his career best of 4 touchdowns. It was also the second defeat suffered by Bills at the hands of Jets in less than three weeks.
The Bills were coping with the absence of their leading running back Fred Jackson who had been ruled out for the season with a right leg injury. This time it was a close call for Jets who managed to move ahead of the Bills with a last minute touchdown moving
ahead 28-24. With the last defeat being sustained at 21-11, the Bills may have fought back hard this time but still not hard enough.
The man on Sunday night for the Jets was Mark Sanchez who threw four touchdown passes to rout the Bills. His career best performance included a last minute 16-yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes. That last minute score proved to be the decisive point in
turning the game in favour of the Jets.
Sanchez fared well even though he completed less than half of the passes. Sanchez covered 180 yards completing 17 of 35 passes with one interception.
The Jets were trailing behind the Bills after they had their first touchdown scored by David Nelson on an 8-Yard Pass From Ryan Fitzpatrick in the first quarter. The Jets equalled the score with a touchdown in the second quarter scored by Dustin Keller on a
3-yard Pass from Sanchez. But soon Steve Johnson had the Bills trailing again with a touchdown on yet another 5-yard Pass by Fitzpatrick.
Plaxico Burress, however struck for the Jets after he took an impressive one-handed 14-Yard pass from Sanchez to score the second touchdown for the Jets.
"It was crazy. He's 6-foot-5 and he's got those 'Go-Go-Gadget' arms. It was probably one of the best catches I've seen in a while." said Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Sanchez called the catch a “big-time” at a critical time saying he did not have words to explain it.
It was in the third quarter that the Jets managed to gain the lead for the first time in the game after Sanchez plunged an 18-yard pass to Dustin Keller for a touchdown. However not for long as Fitzpatrick again threw a big 36-yard pass to Brad Smith to equal
the score 21-21.
As the game entered into the fourth quarter, tension mounted for both the sides desperate to gain a win. A 53-yard field goal by Dave Rayner had the Bills move ahead 24-21 with around ten minutes remaining. With the prospectus looking bleak for the Jets, a
16-yard touchdown pass by Sanchez to Santonio Holmes in the right side of the end zone had the results changed. The scores were changed to 28-24 with just around a minute remaining. The Jets went on to avoid a third straight defeat.
