We need a good musical that will sell well.

Something with a moderately sized cast.

Preferably not a dark show. Although we tend to do better with depressing shows, we want something a little more happy this year.

Say no to high school musical. refuse.

  5. Our high school did The Wizard of Oz and had kindergardeners come in for munchkins! it was the cutest thing and we sold out tickets. Our cast was about 15-25 people, not including the KG's, and sold a few thousand tickets.

  6. How about Little Shop Of Horrors. It's an old musical, and a little dark, but there are some happy elements in it.

    Characters include:

    3 Do-wap girls

    Seymour

    Audrey

    Mushnik

    Orin

    dentist patient

    scientist

Man-eating plant (not as hard as it sounds to make)

There may be more, but i don't exactly remember. If that's not enough for you, bums can and should be added too.

My school did it this year, and it turned out to be a hit.

My high school did this show my senior year of high school - and we had 80-100% capacity every night. (Our theatre seats between 750-775 people.) Our cast was made up of 30 students, and 4 adult community actors who played the faculty members.

While the script calls for only 5 ensemble members, besides the 10 named students, my director made the choice to expand the ensemble to 20 - and dividing them into three groups of 6 or 7 to represent the dance, music, and acting students.

Since this was a high school production, the director cut the small 'Carmen buying drugs' scene at the beginning of act 2, and choose to have her repeat her senior year instead of dying from a drug overdose.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, let me know!
