Question:

Good shrimp recipes anyone?

My sister is a vegetarian, except that she will still eat shrimp sometimes. I feel horrible when our family eats dinner, cause we all love our meat. Does anyone have any good vegetarian recipes that are flavorful or something with shrimp? I want her to enjoy her meals as much as we do.

  1. Shrimp scampi always works. But it is not vegetarian.

  2. Here is a good one:

Vegan shrimp and chicken lad na

10 oz wide rice noodles or soba noodles

    2 tsp vegetable oil

2 cups reconsituted soy curls or sliced 'chicken' cutlets

7 oz vegan shrimp, sliced into 1/2 inch pieces

3 tbsp tapioca flour or cornstarch

    1 tbsp Maggi seasoning

    1 1/2 cups broccoli flowerettes

1 tbsp chopped garlic (about 4 large cloves)

    1 tbsp yellow bean sauce

3 cups low-salt vegetarian chicken broth or vegetable broth

1 tbsp vegetarian fish sauce or Bragg's Liquid Aminos

    1 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce

1 tbsp sugar or brown sugar

Optional (if using wide rice noodles):

    1 tbsp vegetable oil

    1 tbsp mushroom soy sauce

    chili garlic hot sauce

    Using wide rice noodles:

       1. Soak the noodles in warm water for 20 minutes, then rince in cold water. Add noodles to a pot of boiling water and boil for 1 minute only (don't overcook), immediately drain and rinse in cold water again, and set aside in a colander.

       2. In a mixing bowl, separate the noodles and toss thoroughly with 1 tablespoon oil and the mushroom soy sauce. Fry this in a nonstick pan (noodles will stick to a wok so you should use a nonstick pan if possible) until golden brown. Remove from pan and keep warm.

    Using soba noodles:

       1. Add noodles to a pot of boiling water and boil for about 7 minutes. Immediately drain and rinse in cold water and set aside in a colander

       2. Toss soy curl or 'chicken' pieces with 1 tablespoon tapioca flour or cornstarch and the Maggi seasoning. Marinate for 10 minutes.

       3. Saute garlic in 2 teaspoons oin over medium heat until golden color, then add yellow bean sauce, stir well until fragrant. Add the soy curls or 'chicken' pieces and vegan shrimp and saute until brown for about 3 minutes. Add 2 1/2 cups vegetarian chicken broth or vegetable broth. When broth starts to boil, add broccoli and season with veg fish sauce, veg oyster sauce, and sugar. Stir well and let cook a bit longer. Mix remaining tapioca flour or cornstarch separately with the remaining 1/2 cup broth, then stir into the 'chicken' and broccoli until it thickens. Remove from heat.

       4. To serve: arrange the fried noodles or soba noodles on a serving plate, spoon the gravy over the noodles. Serve with chili garlic hot sauce if desired.

  3. Cook some delicious veggie cuisine, but don't add nor tell her that you did not add any shrimp paste. Trust me, she will not realize until she finish up her plate.

  4. As others have pointed out, your sister is not really a vegetarian if she eats shrimp.  She can certainly go to a vegetarian website, but it won't have shrimp recipes or recipes for any kind of animal flesh.

www.recipezaar.com has some pretty good recipes.

  5. these look good..and pretty easy...

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula...

  6. No vegetarian recipes include shrimp because vegetarians do not eat shrimp..or any other animal for that matter.

  7. Your sister is not a vegetarian.

  8. Shrimp is not vegetarian.  Vegetarians don't eat seafood.  You're sister is a pescetarian.  That is similar to a vegetarian, but not a vegetarian.

  9. first of all, your sister isnt vegetarian if she occasionally eats shrimp, she would be considered a pescatarian(might be wrong spelling) which is not considered a "true" vegetarian.

and www.vegcooking.com has alot of vegetarian recipes that are easy,

ps. i agree that you might have wanted to post this somewhere else cause most people here probably dont cook shrimp very often.

  10. my family luvs tempura fried shrimps... u should try that...

  11. Although some posters were correct in saying your sister is not "fully" veggie. That is her right.

I think she might enough a spaghetti with shrimp. Or perhaps you could make garlic shrimp and have mashed potatoes and creamy spinach.

it is nice of you to take an interest in your lifestyle and to be considered of her values.
