  1. Everyone is telling you right.  For $1,000 you can do much better.  If Home Theater is your goal here, you should consider a SEPARATE surround processor with  THREE separate AMPLIFIERS, with FULL-SIZED (one-inch tweeter, 4-inch mid, 8-inch woofer) speakers and a large (12-inch, down-firing), power subwoofer.  Something like this: http://www.avtruths.com/bangforbuck.html

That set up contains the most INEXPENSIVE Home Theater gear available at retail stores.  But in that configuration you get as much sound as if you'd spent 10 times that much.  You won't believe it until you hear it.  Even without the powered sub (and ALL the bass below 80Hz filtered out of the six speakers) this system is still TOO loud.

This set up also allows you to set all of your "channel levels" to "Zero".  You won't have to turn up the REAR or CENTER speakers to get the sound you like.  Using separate amplifiers and identacle speakers allows you to hear the movie soundtrack EXACTLY the way it was recorded.  Most movies are mixed in the studio on 5 or 6 of the same speaker.  Check out THX's studio: http://www.avtruths.com/speaker.html

But in all honesty, part of the "magic" of this set up sounding as great as it does is because of a "POWER CONDITIONER" and the cables we used: http://www.avtruths.com/budgetcables.htm...

  2. You can get something better for that.  I'll give you a link to something better.

  3. You have a decent budget, enought to get something worthwhile! The cube/woofer arrangement is dead. Without a 4.5 - 6 inch midrange driver in the satellites, they won't stand up to even cheap speakers in the lower midrange and the upper bass.

There are numerous manufacturers that make speakers that will sound better. They will be bigger, but they will perform better.

I'd suggest that you let your ears do the shopping. Y/A isn't really the way to buy speakers. Go to ALL of your local stores and ask them to demonstrate everything they have in your price range. You'll fall in love with something, and it will most certainly be better than the satellite/woofer system you linked to.
