Right now I am 17 and currently finishing my last year of high school, but one thing I have been looking into is getting a job to cover my university expenses.

I am planning on taking a Business Management course and getting my degree in it, and I thought that I should get a job that corresponds with this objective.

What jobs are out there that I could get that would help train me in general business and business management.

  1. Probably retail. It covers most of the aspects of business management. You have personnel aspects (headcount, hiring, scheduling, firing, performance appraisals, etc.), maintaining inventory (how much is bought and sold, and how to keep an inventory at the right level for all of the merchandise), things like that.

If you start off working as a clerk or cashier, you can eventually let your employer know that you're interested in management. They can then consider you for a lead or supervisor position as you gain seniority. Eventually, you can learn the other managerial aspects of the business and even use it for case studies when you do assignments in your classes.

  2. Getting a job in retail can help with this.  You can't expect to manage a business without having any experience as a worker for one.
