  1. Well, driving in & out of NYC is challenging, but you are a realtively easy drive from some fantastic surfing. My son lives on Staten island (in the USCG) and I believe him when he tells me not to surf at Brooklyn or Rockaway Beach (eventhough there are some ride-able waves there) I don't need to catch any new diseases. I have heard that some guys actually take the subway with their sticks, but that's not for me.

Long island, especially eastern LI, has some GREAT surfing. When Montauk Point is on, you have world class surf.

New Jersey has some spectacular surf spots. There are good breaks (and relatively clean water) near island Beach State Park. Long Beach Island has a dozen good breaks. I prefer south Jersey. There is mostly clean water and a mellow vibe. Anywhere from Atlantic City (just make believe the casinos aren't really there) to Cape May there are super surf spots (including two that I have no intention of telling you about!). take the two hour drive down the Parkway, it's worth it. Look up the Jersey breaks on surfline.com, the site provides a pretty accurate description of the different breaks. Summer has the least surf of the year in Jersey, which is better from hurricane season to April or so, but it is still pretty good (no matter what the Californians say). Drive south this summer, and I'll see you in the line-up.

  2. Better have on a serious wet suit and start taking your antibiotics before you get into the water in Jersey or near NYC

  3. New Jersey is the place to be bra!

  4. i live near NYC. I like to surf down in Cape May NJ at the cove. There are some good waves there. I also here that manasquan inlet has some nice waves. But def try Nj shore area.

  5. You could try New Jersey, but Long Island is probably better.

  6. Jersey Beaches but watch out for the used syringes
