Good theater systems?

Does anyone know what makes up a good theater system.I found one on this website called unirex The theater system is the URX-180DVD it's 1800 watts 5.1 channel. But theres no ratings any help-.

I am not from your part of the world and will not be able to answer this question with specific brand or model, but here are some general tips that may help:

- Cut through wattage clutter by asking for RMS value of the amplifier.

- Home theater is 'touch-and-feel' product so listen to it before making a purchase decision.

- If the budget allows, go for wooden speakers (jelly-filled speakers are extremely good too) but wood adds to the experience

- Carry your own CD and DVD to check the output, choose something which is soft. You really can not discern with loud tracks

- Check sound reproduction at minimum output volume.

- Give weight-age to clarity

- Do not get carried out with particular 'Bass' ot 'Treble' handling of the system. look for a system that balances.

- If budget allows look for Hi-Definition compatibility of the player to make it short future proof

- I now think that I should have gone for a wireless system, if you are buying a wired system than spend money on high level connectors.

I will add to the answer above by saying that the things you will find that make up a "good" home theater system will not come all in one box.  You will be much better off buying seperate components and piecing it together.

Any home-theater-in-a-box that claims 1800 watts of power is being misleading.  Don't buy it.

Dude its so loud it pisses off my neighbors and if you have a Blu-ray player all the better!
