  1. what they all said

  2. match your speed and pick your spot, then speed up or slow down to move into it...

  3. Look over your shoulder, find a spot to fit in, and give it enough gas to keep up. no faster, no slower. Sometimes you have to push your way in, but most people are polite (ha ha ) Just wave back with the 1  finger saying that they are number 1 with you as well. It`s how all observant drivers let the rec less drivers know they are idiots

  4. Match your speed or even a little faster than the surrounding cars, be sure to signal and hang on !!! It also works well if you are going in the same direction as everyone else. I learned this the hard way.

  5. Don't stop.  Look over your shoulder at the traffic and find a gap as you approach the bottom of the ramp.  Then accelerate so that you get up to speed as the gap gets alongside you.  That way, you don't have to wait for a really large gap in the traffic, and they don't have to slam on their brakes because you've merged when you're still only doing 30 mph.  It's all about getting up to speed promptly and mearing smoothly.

    Good luck!

  6. Turn your blinker on and get up some speed.

  7. do the speed limit if its safe otherwise merge carefully

  8. Try to apply these:

    1) know how fast your car can accelerate up to highway speed and not be afraid to open her up a li'l bit. There's nothing more frustrating than a driver that doesn't match the speed of others on the highway before cutting into traffic turning a 60mph lane into a 30mph lane.

    2) know the difference between a stop sign and a yield sign. A stop sign means you must come to a complete stop and proceed when there's an adequate gap in traffic; a yield sign means you can approach at a speed fast enough to merge with no traffic, but slow enough to stop for vehicles already on the roadway.

    3) use freeway ramps to your benefit -- if you have to come to a stop,  don't stop at the very end of the ramp. Stop far enough back that it gives you a good line of sight on approaching traffic and enough room to accelerate up to highway speed to blend in.

    4) learn to trust your mirrors. A properly adjusted mirror can tell you everything you need to know with just a glance. Adjust each mirror until you can just see the side of the car in the inside edge of the mirror without turning your head. You can then lean in your seat (left, right, forward or backward) to eliminate any blind spots and increase your mirrors effectiveness.

    Good luck.
