  1. Keep your eyes on the ball.

  2. agreed

    crumb

or beat them on the lead

its not that hard to run quicker

just needs a bit of training

  3. If you are going for a contested mark and the opposition are taller or have a better leap what you should try to do is when you leap your first contact with the opposition should be pushing them away from where the ball is going

Try to get into their space before you leap, most tall players will try to jump over the top of you and wont try to push you out so try to use that to your advantage. If its clear your going to be out marked make him "earn" it chop his arms, grab his jumper just dint give a 50 away this will put extra pressure on him next time.

As always eyes on the ball and punch when not in a position to take a contested mark, enjoy your footy mate

  4. Don't take your eyes off the ball.   Ever.

  5. Agree, with the other posters you should focus on getting front and centre and crumbing off big packs and marking on the lead overhead/arms outstretched (eyes on the footy, lead towards the ball carrier/body in line with ball, arm and fingers outstretched, thumbs behind the ball) or on the chest (eyes on the footy, lead towards the ball carrier/body in line with ball, fingers outstretched, first contact with arms+hands then hug ball to chest moving the shoulders forward) like most small forwards do.

If you're 1 on 1 (you'll have to go for the mark) it's all about eyes on the footy, body in line with the footy, getting into the best position first (through superior reading of the flight of the footy) and holding it (knee up to protect yourself if needed).

Check out these videos for reinforcement (featuring Matthew Lloyd, Anthony Koutoufides, Nick Holland and Tony Modra amongst others):

    -Av6HtxRrpM (chest mark)

    QEjqsFbbu14 (hand mark)

    sMfOz5COvKc (overhead mark)

  6. Distract the umpire while you take them out and then take the uncontested mark!

  7. u should crumb as you said or lead dont try the pck marks if they are taller then u unless they are tall and skinny
