  1. The spirit of martial arts is to overcome pain via intensive training spiritually and physically. So taking pain killers defeats the spirit of martial arts.

  2. You don't need pain killers man, just KICK yours opponent @ss and let him feel the pain ;]

  3. fight first, then the pain medicine. you take it before, it dulls your senses and reaction time. focus is key. victory is achieved through the senses. where you hurt, you protect, and use other parts of the body to win. the winner uses pain to their advantage.

  4. Didn't Irwin, the latest guy who got beat by Silva, took painkillers and is now facing suspension?

Ain't there a lesson to be learnt here?

  5. No , many of the painkillers also thin the blood and some can cause heart arrhythmia under sever stress. If you are doing light contact sparring and have an ongoing condition that causes joint pain something like Ibuprofen an hour before a match is probably all right. Beware of unexpected side effects under a lot of physical stress. It is better and safer to rely on your body's production of natural endorphins produced under stress and take the pain killers after.

  6. Well, taking pain killers can slow your reaction time. Also, if your a good martial artist you can take the pain, and in fact shouldn't get hit anyway.
