Question:

Good tofu stir fry?

I got some extra firm tofu cubes at the store today, I have a sweet and sour sauce and a frozen chinese vegetable mix. Do you think that those ingredients cooked in a skillet would be a good combo? I'm still kinda new to eating a vegetarian diet and I'm not sure what goes good together.

  1. tofu is wonderful in many ways if you want to fry it with 1 cup of flour or corn meal and 1 tsp salt mixed and slice the tofu or dice it and batter it. fry till brown and use the sweet and sour or catchup.

as far as stir frying it take it and batter it and stir fry till almost brown. add your frozen vegetables and stir fry them. chinese mixed vegetables usually have a pack of seasoning with them that would be good. or make a brown gravey

    such as

    6 cups water

    1/2 cup soy sauce

    1/2 tsp salt

    6 tab nutritional yeast

    6 tab corn starch

heat till thickened stirring till thickened, so not to stick or burn to pot.

this is a basic gravy but if you add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp ginger and 1 tsp paprika (sweet hungarian) to the sauce you will have a wonderul sauce for chinese flavor without the spicy flavor.

  2. I think that it sounds pretty good.  What I have found though is that it's much better to use fresh veggies instead of frozen.  You get more vitamins and minerals that way and it just tastes better.  However, I'm sure that your dinner will be yummy.

Sautee the tofu in a little olive oil before you throw everything else in the pan...let it get a little browned so that it will be crispy and not mushy.

  3. I think you should cook from scratch. So in the future, buy regular x-tra firm tofu instead of seasoned, and no frozen stuff! Get fresh mung sprouts, napa, carrots, maybe pea pods...Oh and ginger and garlic and green onions. And don't forget the toasted sesame oil...Mmm...FRESH IS BETTER WHEN COOKING!

  4. that sounds pretty good to me =)

just make sure you press the water out of the tofu first.....wrap it in some paper towls and put a heavy pan on top for 15 minutes or so.

we did szechuan tofu/veggie stir fry last night and it was yummy =)
