Good trek MTB?

I am new at mountain biking and I want to get a trek. I don't know where to start!

First look at size.  Trek makes some pretty nice entry level bikes (among other bikes).  But what's more important is that you feel the bike fits you correctly, and don't feel cramped or stretched out.

Budget is a big deal, since that means either go for a hardtail or a full supension.  

I'm assuming you aren't going for the most expensive bike you find.  Bikes with V-Brakes are nice to start, disc brakes are more expensive and don't work on low entry brakes.
