Question:

Good vacation before having children?

My husband and I were recently married, and before we have children, we would like to go on one, maybe 2 nice, relaxing vacations, just the two of us. A beach would be nice, but it's not a "must have". You can only sit on a beach for so many days before you get bored. We really like adventure. We love the discovery channel. We think it would be neat to be around a rain forest or something (maybe Costa Rica?), like those tight rope things through the jungle look awesome. Or a safari would be extremely entertaining to us.

  2. Maybe you should look into going on a Caribbean cruise.  It's very relaxing, but the activities are there if you want them.  You go from one beautiful port to another [although you are only at each port for about 8 hours] and there are a variety of activities at each.

In Belize, you can go cave tubing, or snorkeling, or zip-lining and visit monkeys.  In Dominica, you can see beautiful waterfalls, snorkel in "champagne" bubbles, or go on a canopy tour that includes ziplines and "tightrope" type activities.  In Jamaica, you can climb Dunn's River Falls or go tubing down the White River or bike down the mountain.  In Grand Cayman, you can swim with the stingrays.  You get the idea!

Your library or bookstore has books about cruising, so you can get a general idea about what's involved.  And there's a website - CruiseCritic.com - that's full of info.  If you click on "Boards" you can browse through lots of topics about cruising; if you click "Reviews" you'll find comments from pros and also "Member Reviews", which are especially helpful.  Click on "Cruise Styles" and you'll find discussions about "Romantic" cruises, etc.

A plus is that cruising is a great vacation even after you have kids because most cruise lines have activity programs for kids.  And that's a good thing, because if you do go on a cruise, you're likely to get "hooked"!
