My 17 year old daughter is homeschooled, so she has a fairly loose schedule this fall. She wants to volunteer abroad for a semester this fall while working on her classes. Does anyone know a good organization-- christian or otherwise-- that would be good for her to work and stay with this fall? We are open to all locations. Thanks for any help!

  1. Try the USO.  They need volunteers for their oranization.  They are in alot of airports.  If you live near an airport that has one it is a pretty nice org. to volunteer for.  They help soldiers who are travelling.  They give them free food and drink and if they are near a base they arrange transpotation to that base.

Hospitals are also a good place to volunteer.  If your daughter likes children then she can volunteer at a children's hospital or a pediatric ward.

Nursing homes are good too.  Elderly people love the company of young people.  Your daughter could learn alot about history and "the old days"  (the world before the internet and video games)  Some can be cranky though.

There are alot of good places that do alot of good things.  Find out your daughter's interests and go from there.  She could volunteer at a museum or a library.  Alot of interesting places have a place for volunteers.    Help out a neighbor who can't help themselves.  Read to them or do light chores.  Anything.  The sky's the limit.

  2. My daughter volunteers for the Sr. Citizens center.

THat is a great place for them to get their volunteer work in and also learn a thing or two.
