My husband spilt an entire bottle of Dawn Direct Foam on our shaggy carpet, now...months later, the spot always seems damp and nothing seems to get the stain out. Any suggestions?

  1. rent a steam cleaner,   and see if you can find a degreaser {if not,  white vinegar should work}    steamclean that area first,   with PLAIN HOT WATER, and degreaser or vinegar {no soap}   keep going over that area until the suds stop.    when you get the soap out, go over teh entire carpet so its all clean.    :D

    good luck {FYI same method works on maple syrup & shag carpet}

  2. White vinegar and warm water should help bring it out. Sprinkle some warm water over the area. Soak up as much liquid as possible with a towel. Pour white vinegar over the area. Vinegar breaks down and dissolves soaps and detergents. Then soak up the liquid again.

    Or steam clean with water and white vinegar.

    The vinegar smell dissipates as it dries.

  3. Get a heavy duty shop vac.  Go to the hardware store and get a bottle of defoamer.  Put the defoamer, according to directions, into the recovery chamber.  Soak little areas of the spot and suck them dry with the shop vac.  This is going to take a while, but I'm telling you right here and now that it will work.

  4. wash it with brush and get the water out using the sponge. you might have to spend couple hours taking the water out. you can also use hair drier to dry the carpet.

  5. It's soap - you need to "lift" it out of the carpet.  I would try a carpet cleaning machine with plain water - keep emptying and refilling with plain water until the suds stop coming.
