Question:

Good way to put mud around crown molding?

My husband installed crown molding around the big windows. They look very nice. Now my job is to put mud around the crown molding, mud in some small holes and gaps.

I tried to use small putty knife but it gets a little messy.

I've been using my fingers and it looks pretty good, but my fingers get so sore like corner of the molding will eventually cut my fingers!

Is there any better way?

Are there any good putty knife you can recommend?

  1. Your going to have to keep fingering it. Try using rubber gloves.

  2. Are you talking about drywall mud or caulk, probably caulk. If it is caulk, cut the caulk tube nozzle at a 45 degree angle, not too big, then caulk around the molding with just enough to cover the seam. Next, get a damp paper towel or smooth rag and wipe along the caulk line gently. If you are talking about drywall mud, put it on with a putty knife as smooth as possible, let it dry and sand it.

  3. Use painters Putty no fuss no muss no stupid sanding
