Good ways to tie die?

With young children under age five, something cool and lasting PLEASE.

Kool - Aid works great.  It washes off the kids, and lasts about a dozen washes.  By the time it fades out, you can do it all over again.

Wet tissue paper also works, once the color soaks out into water.  This is also washable.

For both, just air-dry so nothing bleeds.

How about something SAFE with everyday items rather than harsh chemicals?

You can tie dye with grape juice, for example.

Then use soda ash (washing soda, sodium carbonate) to fix the color.  Mix one part soda ash with 15 parts water and you should be fine.
