  1. I was going to suggest Pinot Grigio and White Zinfandel, but someone beat me to it!  Give them the 10 points!

  2. Since the chance that the label brands I have are not the same as yours, I would suggest any kind of Pinot Grio, if you want a cold white wine, or Pinot Noir, for a red table wine.

I prefer oaky Chardonnays, but these two pinot's are a good start because they're both light.

  3. Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir. Any Pinot Noir from Santa Ynes or Santa Maria, or Willamette Valleys are great wines to start. They very flavorful, easy to drink and go great with food. If you really want to spend the money, look for a Chateau Haut-Brion. It might cost you a couple hundred bucks, but it is Bordeaux at its finest for less than a thousand dollars.

Whatever you do, do not drink White Zinfandel! That stuff is just crappy grape juice with a little alcohol in it.

All that being said, the best thing to do would be to find a local wine shop that offers tastings. Go there, taste a few different wines to find what you do and do not like and ask the clerk to make a suggestion.

Good luck and remember, life is too short to drink cheap wine.

  4. stay away from Shirazes and I'm not a fan of cabernet sauvignons

try a light merlot. in the red wines

for white wine - I love Pinot Grigio

brands: there are many but I prefer the Australian or New Zeland wines.

  5. Many good answers already provided...I second the Asti Spumante and would slide in a Moscato d'Asti. Sweet, light, bubbly. I always keep a couple of bottles for those guests who describe themselves as new to wines...it's a simple please-all. Excellent for a little celebrating or with dessert.

Many zins are also easy pleasers.

  6. Any White Zinfandel. Its not a white wine but its considered a blush. Its fruity and flavorful. Not tart or dry like most wine.

  7. Asti Spumante

it's a semi-sweet bubbly wine which tastes really nice

you might try "white-zinfandel" for an "easy-to-drink"

    newbie wine

I'm just recommneding wines which I have drunk

which have that "easy-to-drink" quality ... usually

    lighter-colored wines which are chilled

    Asti = ice cold

    white-zin ... chilled

  8. Super light wines like Pinot Grigio (a very light Italian white wine grape), Soave (another very light Italian white wine) or even White Zinfandel (a sweeter, very fruity version of the red Zinfandel wine) would be good starts - and are all relatively low cost.

You might also try some sparkling wine.  Champagne is expensive and intimidating, but lower cost ones like Cava (sparkling wine from Spain) and Prosecco (from Italy) are great introductions to bubbly!  They also add a special feel to any occasion. :)

    Have fun!

  9. Asti supmante is great, or if you want a wine try a sweet berry wine they are awesome.

  10. You can't go wrong with a reisling, a sweet dessert wine. It's yummy :). I like Yellowtail which is pretty inexpensive!
