Goose Creek cruise past Yellow Cab by 10-9 in Everglades Classic Cup – US Polo News
Martin Zegers lit the lamp five times and had an assist to carry Goose Creek to a 10-9 triumph over Yellow Cab in the Everglades Classic Cup. The cliff-hanging game was played at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.
The game opened at quite a slow pace and the two teams could not make a huge margin in the first seven and a half minute of the play. Lucas Monteverde marked the first goal of the day to put Yellow Cab ahead on the score-board.
Zegers in a counter-offence responded it with a field score and levelled the results. The two teams took a one-all deadlock with them to the sidelines at the end of the first chukka.
The pace of the game gathered speed in the second and some five points were scored in the period. Jeffery Garber scored a couple of goals of which one came on a penalty-shot, while another from the field. Zegers connected on a penalty shot, while his team-mate,
Mason Wroe, added two goals from the field to conclude the second frame with Goose Creek holding a single goal lead, 4-3.
Skipper of Goose Creek, Maureen Brennan, earned his first score of the day and that was the only offence in the period from the either sides. The defensemen of Goose Creek displayed impressive game and blocked the strike of Yellow Cab completely in the third
set of play. Goose Creek after the three frames of play was hanging on to a two-goal, 5-3 advantage.
Both teams started more offensive game in the second half and carried out numerous attacks against either side. Pablo Spinacci added a goal from the field to cut the Goose Creek lead down to a single score, 5-4. But the players of Goose Creek were on a high
verge in the game. Zegers and his team-mate, Jose Donoso, scored two and one goal respectively and expanded the lead to four points. But another Yellow Cab goal went up on the score-board from Jeffery Garber to end the period with Goose Creek sitting on top
with a commanding three goal, 8-5 lead.
Both sides exchanged one goal each in the second last frame and moved forward for the final action with Goose Creek leading the game by three goals. Monteverde scored a field goal which was countered in the very next minute by a goal from Zegers. Yellow
Cab was trailing by three goals, 9-6 with one chukka left to play.
Donoso added a goal from the field and expanded the Goose Creek lead to an insurmountable four points. But the attack of Yellow Cab came alive in the final set of play, but could only add three points. The trio of Yellow Cab including Monteverde Spinacci
and Simon Garber notched one goal apiece to creep the score closer and closer, but to no avail.
On the final horn, Goose Creek rode away the field with a 10-9 victory.
