Goose Creek overcome The Villages to clinch WTC Finals by 3-6
The team of Goose Creek clinched an historic victory against The Villages in the finals of the Women Championship Tournament by 3-6, which was held at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida. Sunny Hale stole the show and scored five goals to
carry her team to a title-claiming victory in the crucial game.
The Goose Creek team had some powerful punches in the opening period, wrapped up some points from Sunny Hale in the first and second rounds and kept back the lead in the final frame to finish a long journey.
The players from Goose Creek opened the game quite aggressively and scored three goals, while allowing The Villages only a single goal. Hale scored the first goal of the day to put Goose Creek ahead on the score-board. However, Natascha Baecher taking the
advantage of Goose Creek’s foul, scored a goal and had it all even at 1-1. In the later time, Hale scored another two goals by getting one from the field and converting another penalty-shot into a goal. The chukka ended with Goose Creek sitting on top with
a two-goal lead, 3-1.
The squad of The Villages revved up in the second set of play and obtained two goals while minimising the Goose Creek offence only for a single score. Tamara Vestey, the player from England, marked a pair of goals and tied the knots at 3-3. But another Goose
Creek goal went up on the score-board from Maureen Brenan (captain) to close out the period with holding a one-goal advantage, 4-3.
In the third set of play, both the teams swapped one goal and moved forward with Goose Creek holding the same one goal lead. Hale connected on a penalty-shot for Goose Creek, while Paige Boone managed it for The Villages. At the end of the third set of play,
The Villages were trailing by a single goal, 5-4.
Amazingly, the pace of the game further increased in the final set of play and plenty of attacks were carried out from the two sides. Baecher and Vestey of The Villages were in a high form and showed impressive passing onto the field. They both notched one
goal each and established their first dominance in the game.
Goose Creek's Hale scored off a penalty shot to make the score even, while Brennan nailed a go-ahead goal in the concluding moments of the match to win the game. Due to her outstanding performance particularly the game-winner, Brennan was chosen for MVP
award. Puma, the Hale’s mare, was selected as Best Playing Pony of the event.
