Question:

Gopher infestation question.?

My back yard is riddle with gopher holes. I've tried everything from smoke bombs to the old water hose trick. Needless to say nothing seems to work long term. So I've been kicking around the idea of electrocuting them.

I would insert some metal rods in my back yard at various locations. Possibly all four corners and a few in the middle. I would then hook up my portable generator and run some current through the metal rods. I would space out the rods as not to create a complete short. Maybe move them from right to left along the back yard. Sort of like the redcoats on line moving across the battlefield.

OF COURSE I WOULD BE STANDING ON MY CONCRETE PATIO WHEN I FIRE UP THE GENERATOR AND TURN IT OFF BEFORE I GO ON THE LAWN.

My logic is that I will sentence these trespassers to death by electrocution.

Will this plan work?

  1. The current would have have enough amperage to carry in sufficient distances to really do the trick.

There are decent mole baits that work like Talprid.

Also if you get rid of the worms and grubs they are eating, then you will solve most of the problems. Apply a pesticide that is designed for subsurface pest like Merit.

  2. No.  Buy some traps!
