Goran Dragic: The future gilt-edged NBA point guard
The 6 ft 4 Slovenian, Goran Dragic was selected by San Antonio Spurs in the 2008 NBA draft and was immediately traded to Phoenix Suns. His vast knowledge about the game and his impressive skills with the ball at a young age were
the reasons for his inclusion in the draft.
Dragic’s rookie year with Phoenix Suns was a quiet one and he ended with an average of 4.5 points and 2 assists per game. His game time was increased the next season though, from 13 minutes to 18 minutes per game, and his average
also took a significant jump too.
It was in the game 3 of Western Conference semifinals against San Antonio Spurs that shot him to prominence in NBA. That night, he scored 23 of his 26 points in the last quarter of the game. Entering the last quarter, Phoenix was
trailing by 18 points to Spurs but Goran’s brilliant display not only won Phoenix the game but stunned his team mates too.
"I think it's safe to say that may have been the best fourth-quarter performance I have ever seen in a playoff game," Suns forward Grant Hill said.
Earlier that season, Goran Dragic scored a career high 32 points against Utah Jazz but unfortunately all his effort proved futile as Phoenix Suns lost the match.
On February 24th, he was traded to Houston Rockets in exchange of Aaron Brooks - a move that can haunt Phoenix Suns in future. Goran went on to score his first triple double against Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this
year. He ended that game with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists along with 5 blocks.
With him, Houston Rockets are likely to flourish and likewise. Accuracy is Goran’s main weapon. He is much taller and much younger than Aaron and his ability to hit three pointers consistently makes him a much better option than
Aaron. He only needs to work on his defensive game, which at the moments seems as the only downside.
Houston Rockets have not seen much of him as he has only played 22 games so far. If the deadlock ends and the season starts, it will be interesting to see this young guy running and jumping hard in the field, trying his best to
make an impression. If he fails to deliver, he might be traded off again and this will be damaging for him as he will have to start again.
