Question:

Gordon Browns 'big idea' for health is weekend and evening access to GPs - why don't we already have this?

Seems to me the only reason you cant already see a GP in the evening or at the week-end is because the NHS dictates that they don't work at these times.

If the best that Brown can do is remove an artificial barrier that the NHS created in the first place (plenty private docs are perfectly happy to work ouside office hours) - can anyone still support him?

  1. No, the doctors are complaining about the work, its not the NHS of the government, but the overpaid doctors.

Although, clearly your mind is already made up so no point arguing with facts

  2. i think so

  3. one woukd have thought that working unsociable hours would be in a doctors work description - it comes with the territory - you dont know when youre going to be ill! the doc doesnt know when he will be needed!

  4. Well if I'd trained for YEARS to be a doctor and could earn a particularly good living within normal hours, I wouldn't want to work evenings either.

  5. In an emergency you can still contact an out of hours standby doctor.I did and he drove 25 miles on a Sunday to check me out.
