Gordon Hayward wants to make the All Star team this coming season – NBA News
Gordon Hayward worked hard to earn a starting spot for himself with the Utah Jazz this past season. The 6 foot 8 inch power forward played his second season in the league for Utah in 2011-2012, and made huge jumps in terms of improvement
when he finished the season averaging 11.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Hayward played more than 30 minutes per game on average and shot 45.6 percent from the field, as he was able to become a permanent member of the Jazz core.
Next season, the forward will enter his third year in the NBA, which is the year in which new players are expected to make the most improvement and rise to the next level so that when their final year of the rookie contract approaches,
they have a reputation which can help them land a big contract, the one that earns all the money.
And Hayward is not backing away from the challenge, setting extremely high goals for himself.
“I think I’ve shown that I belong in the league. It’s something that you work for and you work towards. Now I think I know that I belong and everything. Now you push yourself even further, try and become an All-Star. That’s definitely
a goal of mine, but I think first and foremost I think if we were to win games that will help that out,” said Hayward about his goals for the upcoming NBA season.
In reality, Hayward is still a long way from becoming an All Star, especially when you have players like LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan playing the same position that he does. However, he has the right
frame of mind going into the season, setting his goals high so that he can challenge himself.
Hayward needs to keep improving his overall game, but his three point range is something that needs particular attention. After shooting 47.3 percent from three point range in his rookie year, Hayward’s average dropped to 34.6
percent last year. He is right when he says that he wants to help Utah win more game, since that plays a big role in judging a player’s talent. However, it’s a long road to success and he will have to put in a great deal of work to get there.
