Gordon Hoggan claims Men’s Singles title at Yonex Activcity East of Scotland Senior 2012
Scotland’s Gordon Hoggan lived up to expectations as he grabbed Men’s Singles title after beating Matthew Carder in the final contest of Yonex Activcity East of Scotland Senior 2012 on Sunday, March 18, in Scotland.
Gordon, who was the top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, showed his elevated play and overpowered the second seeded Matthew in an entertaining three-set clash.
The top seed worked really hard and remained successful in winning the title match in three games by taking 28 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Matthew played remarkable badminton in the opening game but failed to continue his winning run and lost the remaining both games.
In the first set, Gordon started his run in a quivering manner as he played negative strokes in the opening rallies and remained struggling in first half.
After the break, he tried to match the speed of his rival but again failed to dominate the pace of rallies. He could not play positive badminton in the first set and lost it with a one-sided score of 11-21.
In the second set, Gordon powered his way back into the contest by playing with precision and did not repeat his mistakes he made in the previous set.
He controlled the pace of rallied from the opening points and set up a wonderful lead until the break.
After the interval, the top seed remained on track and kept the pace of rallies at maximum level. He was fully focused in the game and bagged it without facing any trouble with a remarkable margin of 21-7.
In the deciding set, Gordon continued his killing run in the match as he did not let his opponent to level the score at any stage and remained successful in building up an incredible lead until the break.
After the interval, he stretched his lead by playing at to his maximum potential and did not spare any chance for Matthew to dominate the pace of rallies.
The top seed ended the second game in an emphatic fashion with an incredible score of 21-10.
Gordon won the contest in straight games in just 28 minutes by an interesting 11-21, 21-7 and 21-10 score on the board.
