Gordon Lord Byron seeking hat trick through the Owenstown Stud Stakes at Naas
Naas will become home for the Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed Race) over seven furlongs on 4th June. Assembled for the race is a line-up of ten three-year and older runners. The prize money for the winner is €27,625.
One of the strongest contenders for the race is Gordon Lord Byron, Byron’s four-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Boa Estrela. He has raced four times during the new season out of which he claimed two, was second in one and met a quite dreadful fate in the
seasonal debut. He ended eleventh on the field of fifteen on 7th April at Cork.
His second try of the season saw him improving drastically as he scored second in the Go Racing In Kildare Handicap on 21st April at Naas over six furlongs. The race was won by the 11/4 favourite, Maarek, who led by a mere margin of just half
a length.
My Girl Anna settled third on the field of eleven.
The four-year-old then made the most out of his third venture of the season on 3rd May at Tipperary over five furlongs. He was the 5/1 joint favourite winner of the race and led the runner up, Luisnat, by just half a length.
My Girl Anna ended third once again and the other joint favourite, Kateeva, concluded the race eighth on the track of eleven.
He then struck a pair of wins by grabbing the Corkracecourse.IE Race on 11th May at Cork over six furlongs. Riding with F. M. Berry, Gordon Lord Byron led the track of four by 2 ¼ lengths.
Six Of Hearts finished the closest while the 11/10 favourite of the race, Croisultan, ended fourth.
His ability of scoring second at Naas is the loudest of indicators about his potential to strike a win there. Today will be his fifth outing of the season, second experience at Naas and an almost inevitable chance of bagging a hat trick.
The line-up is fairly competitive with those who have raced at Naas but could not come out victorious and those too who have raced elsewhere but were successful.
