Gordon McCauley wins the fifth stage of the Tour of the Great South Coast 2012
Gordon McCauley of Team Drapac Professional Cycling wins the fifth stage of the Tour of the Great South Coast after his tremendous performance during the fifth stage of the race.
Luke Davison of Team Budget Forklifts, Jordan Kerby of Team Jayco/ Apollo/ VIS, Jack Beckinsale of Team Croydon  Cycleworks and Brenton Jones of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers occupied the second, third, fourth and the fifth position in the respective order.
"I just wanted to try and pick up a few time bonuses to try and defend Darren's lead," McCauley said.
Lapthorne was delighted after McCauley's efforts:
"He was unbelievable out there," the race leader said. "I couldn't be happier with him".
Neil Van Der Ploeg of Team Search2Retain wins the Intermediate sprint with Darcy Woolley and Joel Pearson securing the second and the third positions.
Gordon McCauley of Team Drapac Professional Cycling wins the Stage award and earned 2 UCI points.
Race Director John Craven noted after the race, "Police explained they felt it was unsafe for their members to work on the event and that they were also concerned for the safety of motorists and the public".
"While the tour so far has been a resounding success, it's unfortunate that we have struck such horrendous conditions”.
"Hopefully the weather can brighten up over the next two days".
Darren Lapthorne of Team Drapac Professional Cycling leads the stage 5 classifications with a total lead of 13 seconds over Anthony Giacoppo of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers.
Neil Van Der Ploeg of Team Search2Retain, Brenton Jones of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers and Samuel Witmitz of Team Budget Forklifts secures the next four positions respectively.
Ploeg is also leading the Shimano Sprint Championship with a total number of 28 points in his back pocket.
Patrick Shaw is three points behind at the second position with Anthony Giacoppo, Samuel Witmitz and Gordon McCauley at the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
