Gordon Strachan leaves Middlesbrough
Gordon Strachan has left Middlesbrough after less than one year with the Championship club.
The former Coventry City, Southampton and Celtic manager led Boro to a disappointing 11th place finish in the second-tier last season, and has been unable to stop the club sliding down the league table at the start of the current campaign.
Middlesbrough currently lie 20th in the Championship after picking up just 11 points from 11 matches, and now begin the search for a replacement.
The likes of former Celtic manager Tony Mowbray and former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley have already been linked to the vacant position at the Riverside Stadium.
Strachan signed a string of players from the Scottish Premier League in the summer – most notably Rangers’ hitman Kris Boyd – in the hope of leading the club to a promotion charge, but the new acquisitions have failed to shine under his leadership.
Boyd scored in Saturday’s match against Leeds, but Boro went on to lose the match 2-1 – their sixth defeat of the season.
And after talks with Steve Gibson this afternoon, it was confirmed that the 53-year-old Scot has left the club.
