Gorka Fraile enters 2nd round with strong victory over Albert Ivorra – San Sebastian Challenger 2011
Qualifier Gorka Fraile continued his impressive run on the red clay courts of San Sebastian as he thrashed out compatriot Alberta Alcaraz Ivorra 6-1, 6-3 to book his place in the second round of 2011 International San Sebastian
Challengers tournament in Spain.
Fraile made a shiny start to the match as he dropped only one game in the opening set to take a 1-0 lead in the set score clinching a breadstick win in the first set. Ivorra made a good come back in the following set but he could
not force the match into the decider as he lost in straight sets.
Looking for a place in the second round of the tournament, Fraile looked to attack his opponent right from the start of the match. He executed his forehand and backhand shots to perfection to put the challenger under extreme pressure.
Dominating almost all aspects of the game, he made his opponent’s game plan look completely ineffective.
Breaking the serve twice in the opening set, he raced to an impassable lead. He then had no problems holding to his serve games either. The Spaniard executed his serves brilliantly and took control of the points right from the
start. Dashing his wonderful backhand and forehand winners down the line and cross court, he established complete control over the contest. Hitting his only serve break of the match, Fraile set up a set point for himself and then converted it with a well disguised
drop shot to pocket the opener.
Fraile pressurised his opponent in the second set as well as he continued to play his natural game freely. Having the momentum on his side, he looked very confident. Ivorra put up a brave fight but it wasn’t the best of his days
as a number of his shots landed just outside the lines. A large number of unforced errors did not help the cause either as he found himself in a very difficult position in the match.
Breaking the serve early in the second set, Fraile earned a healthy 4-2 lead. Holding on to his next service game he extended his game score advantage to 5-3. Making his second serve break of the set in ninth game, he wrapped up
the match that lasted for only 1 hour and 17 minutes.
Fraile’s excellent serve proved to be the main difference between the two players as he hit an impressive 91 per cent first serve. Ivorra, on the other hand, struggled to convert easy scoring chances on his serve and he managed
to convert only 46 per cent of the points while serving.
