Question:

Gornergrat Train or Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (gondolas and lifts to the Klein Matterhorn) from Zermatt?

I know it would be nice to do both, but we only have one full day in Zermatt this summer (early July). This is assuming we have good weather (if not, we probably won't do either), and we are just going by what would be more scenic. Tips and advice about these excursions will also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your advice!

  1. gornergrat has some fantastic views. you go over bridges with waterfalls. its gorgeous. when we went in the summer 06. it snowed which was awesommee. but i would agree with the other person that said to go for the matterhorn. that really is amazing. you need to get a gondola from in zermatt up to.. i forget the name.. well somewhere higher up lol. and then get the cable cars up to the top. when you get off the glacier express in zermatt. the gorngergrat rail is literally to your left and straight over the road. but the matterhorn gondolas are a bit further away. but all withing walkign distance. they also have little taxis you can use. have fun. zermatt really is good! and if you get the chance have a go at the adventure tree thing ...... me and my sister did it. terrifying but good. and alsot there is a gorge walking area. not very expenisive. but you could do that and the matterhorn in a day. in fact you could probably do the gorge walk on your way to the gondolas. but i would ask somone like a holiday rep or get a map to check that you are foig the right way! hope you have a fantastic holiday!!! :-)

  2. I think you should do the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.

The Gornergrat Train is not as spectacular and you can find similar views all over Switzerland. The only reason to go up the Gornergrat is to take a better picture from the Matterhorn Mountain, that you can also see from the village.

  3. Gornergrat (3131m) is less high than Klein Matterhorn (3885m), but you need warm cloths regardless which one you do.

I would suggest going to Klein Matterhorn because the view is breath-taking and you will be surrounded by snow covered mountains even in mid summer.
