  2. Foods to Avoid:

Candy and foods that are sticky and chewy, or hard and crunchy, create the biggest problems for kids and adults wearing braces or retainers.

    Therefore, in general:

    Nothing hard

    Nothing sticky

    No big mouthfuls

    No biting into anything hard

And specifically - be sure to avoid:

    Taffy

    Hard candy

    Sticky candy

               Such as:

                - Caramels

                - Sugar Daddies

                - Starbursts

                - Carameled Apples

                - Sugar Babies

                - Licorice

                - Toffee

                - Tootsie Rolls

                - Now & Laters

    Popcorn

    Peanuts

    Ice

    Taco chips

Whole apples and carrots (cut them into pieces first)

Hard French bread crust and rolls

    Spareribs

Corn on the cob (cut the corn off the cob before eating)

    Bagels

    Pizza Crusts

    Carrots (uncooked)

    Doritos

    Pretzels

Plain chocolate candy is all right!

as long as you brush afterwards.

    Remember:

Crunchy, chewey, sticky, gooey foods can damage your braces and lengthen treatment time.

    AND

When you follow Dr. Kent's instructions about what to eat and how to keep your braces in good shape - YOUR help and cooperation lead to great results!

(so basically anything but those foods)

  3. soup, pasta just eat soft things

  4. Okay, with braces, after they aren't sensitive anymore, you can pretty much eat anything you want. I noticed with my braces, the orthodontist gave a bit of an unreasonable list of things I couldn't eat. Sticky foods are a definite "no-no," like caramel. Corn on the cob can be harmful as can uncut apples and hard foods. Aside from those, I ate everything that I normally do. It will be worth it once you see the great smile you will get out of braces!! :D Foods that are good for sore mouths are yogurt, ice cream, cottage cheese, soup, mashed potatoes, and macaroni. Also, I found that even if my mouth was sore, biting down on things, even if it hurt a bit sped up the healing process. Instead of a sore mouth for a week, I had a sore mouth for 2 days. Hope this helps!
