I get like 27 channels fair to poor reception now. Would purchasing a converter boximprove the sound and picture of broadcast stations in the Chicagoland area? And, will they pull in a better signal, even on weaker stations? Can I also connect a dvd/vcr player vcr recorder and my tv with an antenna and expect great quality reception of picture and the sound? Who knows about which box converter is better for everything I'm asking here?

  1. i think the best one is the digital stream at radioshack.

  2. The nice thing about the digital broadcasts is the clarity of the signal.  With the unit I have (Philco TB100HH9) the picture and sound are JUST LIKE when I used to have digital cable.

An antenna will help quite a bit.  It can make a huge difference in the quality of your signal; even the new digital rabbit ears help.

There was just an article in Consumer Reports that rated the best DTV converters on several things; ease of use, picture quality, etc.  The 2 top units were the Sansonic FT300A and the Philco TB100HH9; they were both rated as being the closest to DVD quality.  I own the Philco, and think it's a fantastic unit.  I'm including a link to a reprint of the Consumer Reports article for you.

    Good luck!

  3. I don't know which converts are the best, but make sure you change your TV to channel 3 before hooking it up to the converter box.
