  1. You may have to Jet it correctly, it sounds like a lean condition, with the cam, its taking in more air, but the small jets may not be delivering enough fuel. Another thing is valve timing, Did you just put the cam in and line up the marks o the gears? If you did, that could be another reason... Cam shafts NEVER preform properly using this method, You MUST degree a preformance cam, not just line the marks up

Try richer jets in that carb and make sure there are no vacuum leaks first, this may fix your problem

  2. did you mark the distributor before you pulled it out? You can have it one tooth off and cause a look of issues.

  3. Sounds like you either haven't got the distrubutor right on

locate TDC and re-stick the distibutor

or timing gears not installed properly.

Re-check the timing chain alignment marks

Top Sprocket mark at 6 o'clock,

    Lower sprocket at 12 o'clock

  4. Pretty vague description for a good diagnosis. Not sure on how much experience you have with small blocks, but  a 292 cam is extremely large for a 327.  A good size for that motor is more like a 270.  If you run a cam that big, they really like a lot of timing, like 15-20 btdc off of idle.  Sometimes these cams come with a card that tells you how much timing they like, and if you're supposed to run stock timing gears.   Are you running aftermarket timing gears?  do they have more than one key way on the gears to change the timing of cam to crank adjustment?  And I'm assuming you have the firing order right? 18436572. Does it pop all the time, or just while driving?  just on accel?  Is it a hydraulic lifter?  Could you have an intake valve adjusted a little too tight?  That can cause all sorts of problems and can be checked by  a vacuum gauge.

I'm assuming this is an automatic?  Does it pop out the tail pipe and die? This could be caused by a number of things, like an old dist cap that has moisture or carbon tracking. Or poor carb adustment, or vacuum leak. Does it pop up thru the carb and die?  This can be caused by too tight an intake valve, or way to advanced timing, or even a mistimed cam to crank.
