Got a 98 trans am and my brake lights went out in the tail lamps but not the spoiler brake lights. any help?

  1. Check your turn signals. If they work, Have someone stand behind the car,put your foot on the brake and slowly move the turn signal switch back and forth, up and down. If they come on at any time during this test, you have a worn turn signal switch. If not, it's the brake light switch on the pedal.


  2. It's most likely just a bulb. Sometimes if only one side goes out the other will stop working as well. I have an 88 trans am and had the same problem.

  3. look for a blown brake fuse as the third brakelight is on another circuit.

  4. Brake lamp switch on the pedal itself could be bad. It has two seperate switches inside it. One for the CHMSL and another for the regular tails.

    Have you checked the bulbs in the tail lamps? Could be that they both went out around the same time as well, unlikely but possible.
